According to the latest preliminary statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau, the total volume of steel imported into the United States reached 2.129 million short tons in September 2024, a 10.3% decrease from the final statistics in August. Among them, the import volume of semi-finished steel products was 440,000 short tons, a month-on-month decrease of 18.4%, accounting for 20.6% of the total import volume. Imports of finished steel products were 1.688 million short tons, down 8.0% from the previous month. In September, the import volume of most finished steel products decreased, especially the import volume of heavy-duty steel, rebar, tinplate and other products dropped significantly. It is estimated that the market share of finished steel products in the United States was 21% that month.
